Two stoke engines, engines with two strokes between combustion, are very popular in mini motor sports for several reasons. They are less expensive, lighter and more powerful than their 4 stroke brethren. They are also louder and less efficient in general.
Manufacturers like Tanaka have been pushing 2 stroke engines to be much more efficient.
